The Ramayana Family Role Essay The Ramayana Hindus are extremely respectful and prideful people with many strong core beliefs. These beliefs have been passed down through the ages in The Ramayana. Throughout this epic poem, Rama, his family, and many others exemplify what it means to be Hindu. Rama is considered to be a perfect Hindu and follows all aspects of Hinduism flawlessly. This includes following duty, honor, responsibilities based on a person’s place in society, and most important to Rama, family. In the epic The Ramayana, family is portrayed as the most important aspect to the Hindu belief. The importance of family is shown early in the epic when King Dasaratha begs of Viswamithra to not take Rama away from his family, or at least to wait till he’s older. Viswamithra wants to take him on a journey to perform a yagna, or a journey to conquer the five-fold evils. The king’s love for his son Rama was most likely the strongest of all relationships, greater even than that of husband and wife. Rama’s father assumed the role of a teacher his son and gave all his good aspects of learning to him while growing up. When King Dasaratha heard of this he swelled with pride and couldn’t have been more proud of Rama and his brothers. After marrying, Rama’s father treats him as his equal and even as a friend. Over time, Dasaratha grows old, and with the utmost trust and pride in his son Rama, decides to pass on his throne to him. However, one of Dasaratha’s wives forces the king to banish Rama from the city for fourteen years because of a past predicament. Dasaratha is tremendously heartbroken. The king begs for Rama to not leave, and is in a state of complete immobility from the situation. The king shows how important family really is when he says to Rama with all seriousness, â€Å"How can I bear to see you go? I will not survive your departure. (Narayan, 49) When news arrives to tell that Rama will not be returning, King Dasaratha dies while the messenger is still talking to him. This shows how important family really was to the king. He knew Rama was to return after his fourteen year banishment, but the king could not last that long without his son by his side. Rama showed an incredible amount of respect to family as well. He was willing to take on many great sacrifices in the interest of family harmony. He anticipated what his father desired and acted cheerfully without even being told. He never questioned the ethics of his fathers actions or his stepmothers actions, even when they seemed crazy to others or affected Rama personally. He followed orders from his father and mothers without question and felt honored while doing so. He called all of his stepmothers mother as a sign of respect and saw them as equals to his biological mom Kausalya. When his stepmother Kaikeyi told Rama that his father would no longer pass the throne to him and he would be banished for fourteen years Rama asked no questions and immediately agreed to leave. He even felt honored in doing so. â€Å"Throughout he referred to Kaikeyi in the gentlest terms and always as â€Å"mother†. †(Narayan, 60) He continued to call Kaikeyi mother even after he found out it was her who wanted him gone; he even agreed she had the right to decide who was to be king. He also stated that his parents are of highest command and that he will do anything they tell them when Vasishtha, Rama’s guru, tried to take authority and stop Rama from leaving. Rama’s other brother Bharata, who was away at the time, was also appalled when he heard the news of Rama being banished. It was Bharata’s mother who banished Rama and when he found out that it was she who was responsible he told her, â€Å"If I do not snuff your wretched life out with my own hand, do not pride yourself that it’s because you are my mother, but you are spared because Rama would despise me for my deed. (Narayan, 58) It was Bharata who was to be crowned king after Rama was banished, however he did not wish this upon himself and begged for Rama’s forgiveness and asked him to come back and take the crown. Rama declined and Bharata agreed to rule the kingdom while he was gone, but he vowed to step down fourteen years from the day Rama left, whether or not he came back. Bharata took and wore Rama’s sandals to show that the throne was Ramas and that he would rule Ayodhya in his name while he was gone . He even refused to go back into the kingdom but stayed outside of the gates, for he felt unworthy. Sita also showed great love, compassion, and loyalty to Rama. Sita was the epitome of womanly virtues and purity and she was almost perfect in appearance. Fro the moment she laid eyes on Rama she couldn’t sleep or even rid her mind of Rama, and she thought about killing herself if she could not be with him. Sita, too, refused to stay when Rama was banished and eventually convinced Rama to take her with him. She stated that there would be no point in living if he was not there with her. One day, while Rama was out trying to catch a golden deer that was really a trick, a voice disguised as Ramas shouted for help. Lakshmana was protecting Sita at the time and knew it was most likely a set up so he did not worry about it. However, Sita worried greatly and did not understand that he was safe. She desperately wanted Lakshmana to go save Rama. She stated, â€Å"If you don’t want to save him, there is nothing more I can do, nor anyone I could turn to for support. The Color Purple delves into the thoughts and feelings of two sisters, Celie and Nettie, whose bond was so strong that even if their only connection for a very long time was through their letters to one another. Even if they ha ve gone through so much hardship, it was like they never were separated. The whole story was written in such a way that it was narrated through letters exchanged between the two sisters, during the time when Nettie, the younger sister decided to work as a missionary-teacher in a remote part of Africa for a long time, and when her sister Celie was starting to recognize what she actually wants in life. Even though it took a very long time for the two sisters to reconcile, in the end everything came in full circle upon their much awaited meeting. Also the French government was now ran by the aristocrats and the bourgeois. With the bourgeois being given high positions because of their wealth, talent, ambition, and opportunities, they would have an important role in the political life of France. The French Revolution changed the Old Regime, based on a dynas tic state, into the modern state it is today. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen concluded that the state was no longer a separation of provinces or estates; it was also no longer a possession of the monarch's that he believed belonged only to him.The idea of the Declaration showed that the state now belonged to the people as a whole and its power must come from the people to succeed. The people now had the characteristic of individuality of no longer being separated into nobles and commoners. Many surrounding lands took the ideas and reforms of the French Revolution as inspiration to create their own revolution over their land. â€Å"During the nineteenth century, the French Revolution served as a frame of reference for the various political constellations: liberalism, socialism, and conservatism† ( Perry. Chase.Jacob. Jacob. Von Laue, p. 462). Before the Revolution, the state was still closely linked to its religion. Each state had a state church that w as the ruling power. â€Å"By disavowing any divine justification for the monarch’s power, by depriving the church of its special position, and by no longer limiting citizenship to members of a state church, the Revolution accelerated the secularization of European political life† (Perry. Chase. Jacob. Jacob. Von Laue, p. 463). The Revolution did away with administrative ways of the Old Regime, and imposed rational ways to the state.Highest ranks of land and position were given to men by their talent and no longer by their birth line. The Revolution also did away with peasantry working obligations, and based taxes on the people’s income. By showing that an ancient order could be overpowered by a new one, The French Revolution inspired other generations to revolt against their abusive model societies. This created three forces with the modern state: total war, nationalism, and a fanatic utopian mentality. These ideas went against the ideas of the Declaration of t he Rights of Man and could be destructive to what the French Revolution was creating. The French Revolution also gave birth to the modern nationalism† ( Perry. Chase. Jacob. Jacob. Von Laue, p. 463). During the Revolution, the entire nation was directed loyalty. This view was seen as dangerous by many philosophers because it was feared that it would setback the progress of the Revolution. The Revolution looked to reconstruct society on the basis of Enlightenment ideals. These ideas were soon crushed by the terrors and fears of the dangerous forces that had begun to rise in the later years of the Revolution. These forces almost succeeded in ruining what the French reformers had created.

I like this story entitled The Nightingale and the Rose because the power of love shown by the nightingale is so amazing. The Nightingale willing to sacrifice himself for something he believed in, that why he had a great power to fulfill his dream to made a red rose flower for the student. The plot of the story is very simple. A young student thought that he was madly in love with the professor's daughter. He felt miserable because he could not find a single red rose in the whole garden to give to his love, and he knew that without the rose she would not agree to dance with him in the ball to be given by the prince the next day. The Nightingale overheard this and was deeply touched by what she believed was the expression of the young man's true love. So she decided to help the young man, but she was told that the only way to get a red rose in this cold winter was for her to build it out of her music and her heart's blood. The Nightingale of course also valued her life, but she was ready to lay down her own life for the happiness of the young couple. She therefore did what she was told to do. The next morning, the most beautiful red rose appeared, but the Nightingale was found dead under the rose-tree. Not knowing what it had cost to produce the rose, the student thought that he was very lucky to find this flower and he immediately plucked it and ran to the professor's daughter. The professor's daughter, however, turned him down because she had already agreed to dance with the Chamberlain's nephew who had given her precious stones. The student was very angry, so he threw the rose away and returned to his reading. This is a touching story of love, but not the love between the young student and the professor's daughter, because neither of them understood what true love is. The girl was interested only in power and money, and the young man, in what he considered practical. The only person who understood love, treasured love, and was ready to sacrifice her life for love was the Nightingale. For her love is eternal music, love is the most precious thing: even more precious than life itself, and true love is always in the giving rather than in the taking. The main theme of this story is love, in fact the young Student needs a red rose to conquer the girl he affirms he loves, even if at the end she doesn’t appreciate his act. This makes us understand two things: on the one hand, that love often brings sorrow, as happens to the tender Nightingale whose gesture of love is not understood by the silly Student. On the other hand, it is very difficult to distinguish between real, authentic love and a more superficial sentiment, and only a very sensitive person can appreciate the full value of this feeling. Besides there are other themes: ingratitude, because the Student is ungrateful towards the Nightingale, whose act of love he is too arid to grasp; generosity, because the altruist Nightingale sacrifices her life to help the Student and her sacrifice is actually wasted. As for the girl, she is not merely superficial but also vain and materialistic, as she loses all interest in the Student once she is promised something more ‘precious’ like the jewels of the Chamberlain’s nephew. This fairy tale is very incisive and, despite its apparent simplicity, leaves the reader with a clear moral message: it is important to remember that some people sometimes sacrifice their life or suffer to help others, but at the end they aren’t returned with the same emotional intensity and their actions are not even fully understood. This is a moral message that should be born clear in mind, in an age and period when most people appear to be interested only in their own welfare, without being able to look beyond their limited, subjective perspective, thus failing to see what or who is outside the borders of their very narrow egoistic world.

The acceleration of people, weapons, and drugs from Mexico are taking a toll on the economy, citizens, and the job markets in Texas. Texas concerns with the rise of violent crimes presently pouring into its southern towns and quickly moving inland believes something needs to be done quickly. The state of Texas has given millions of dollars in an attempt to subsidize and support the security forces patrolling the borders of the southern regions of Texas to no avail. As the frustration grows government and interest groups begin to assemble to iron out policies that will counteract the activities at the borders. In addition, Gov. Perry has created a Ranger Recon Team, supported by the Highway Patrol, DPS Aviation, and Texas Rangers. The Texas central region, focal point is on enterprises that harbor criminal activity, terrorism, organized crime, and violence. Gov. Perry wants Washington to step in and do their jobs to protect the borders and give 1,000 National Guardsmen to the borders (Office of the Governor Rick Perry,  n. d. ). However, the special interest groups like Federation for American Immigration Reform, Immigration Works USA, The National Council of LaRaza and the National Immigration forum are pro immigration reform. These special interest groups believe illegal immigrants have rights and support amnesty for these illegals. The special interest fighting for amnesty believe the issues concerning, not knowing who is entering the country, why are they entering, what are they doing after entering, and when are they leaving, believes a plan of legalization for undocumented immigrants could be the solution for these growing questions. Whereas, the U. S. Border Watch, a citizens’ action group determined to bring about security on this nations borders, stop the invasion of illegal immigrants, and to secure this nation from terrorists. U. S. Border Watch simply wants the elected officials in Washington to secure the borders by enforcing the laws already created and not create new laws to override the existing ones(U. S. Border Watch,  2005-2008). Unlike Immigration Works USA and other interest groups of this type who lobby the federal government with spending exceeding 1. million. U. S. Border Watch existence does not depend upon lobbyists but on donations and volunteers. The volunteers patrol the border region until such a time Washington provides funds to protect these border regions.
